VIAGGIO IN SVEZIA - PARTE 1

Rieccomi, dopo due intense settimane di permanenza in Svezia, com'è tradizione di famiglia da qualche anno a questa parte.

Ecco il primo pezzo del mio diario illustrato, dedicato a Midsommar (la festa di Mezza Estate).

Il venerdi più vicino al solstizio d'estate gli svedesi festggiano la notte più corta dell'anno, con balli, musica e soprattutto grandi mangiate e bevute con gli amici. Le ragazze hanno corone di fiori, si mangiano patate novelle cotte con l'aneto, aringhe marinate con panna acida e erba cipollina, torta di fragole e si bevono molti, molti bicchieri di Brännvin, una grappa svedese aromatizzata con erbe e bacche, spesso fatta in casa (shhh.. non ditelo in giro: pare che sia ancora illegale).

Il tutto è molto più buono e divertente di quel che potrebbe sembrare, anche grazie all'ospitalità degli amici svedesi.

And so I'm back, after two intense weeks in Sweden. Travelling north with my kids has become a family tradition and we all look forward to cooler climates and a change of scenery right after the end of school.

Here's a first installment of my illustrated diary, dedicated to  Midsommar.

On the friday closest to summer solstice the swedes celebrate the year shortest night dancing, eating and drinking with family and friends.
The girls wear flower garlands and the traditional meal is based around pickled herring, sour cream with chives, new potatoes, strawberry cake and many. many shots of Brännvin, the swedish version of vodka, flavored with herbs and berries and often home made (Ssh! Don't tell, apparently it's still illegal!).

Everything tastes better and is much more fun than one would think, especially thanks to the sweet Swedes and their generous hospitality.
